The Library Steps

The brief was to design and make a very portable and beautiful set of library steps that would enable the client to access the top shelf of her library. I was given the dimensional limitations and told ‘I would like a typical James Morley Furniture piece’. This curvaceous and delicate piece was my answer. The shaped handrail was made of ten very slim slices of cherry wood laminated together in a mould, shaped and then veneered with a thick ebony band. Subsequently we have made 14 sets of library steps in varying sizes and timbers.
